“Divine food in a serene quiet atmosphere.”

One of the best Japanese meals I've had in a busy restaurant where the service was fantastic and the food was superb. Even though the restaurant was full it was still very quiet and the lighting matched the atmosphere. I went there for my birthday and decided upon the degustation menu. Each dish is explained to you starting with miso- infused duck breast. It was a lovely evening.

“Best Japanese restaurant in AKL”

Love the food here!!! This is nth time I have visited Tatsumi, we have dined here for both lunch and dinner and Tatsumi never fails to impress us! We had bluff oysters two way (both raw and tampura), it was fresh and yum!! The teriyaki chicken was to die for, and the pork belly was braised so it's so soft and melts in your mouth. They also have a good selection of drinks (sake, wine and cocktail). LOVE THIS PLACE!

So authentic! The degustation was fantastic and each dish was beautiful and equally delicious! The Sake platter and matching wines also added to the overall experience. Loved this place! After our mean the chef came out to talk to us which was a very nice touch. Cant wait to return! :-)

I have been to Tatsumi on multiple occasions for lunch with either my mum or my boyfriend and have had very good experiences with this place. The service is just lovely, very attentive without being over-bearing, the staff are friendly and welcoming. I've only ever tried the lunch menu and every time the food has been beautifully presented, well crafted and simply delicious! Tatsumi is now my regular 'lunch treat' place. The price is slightly on the steep side to go back to on a regular basis, but definitely good value for money.

For fantastic flavours, attractive attendants, and fanciful food, this Japanese restaurant is a treat. Close your eyes and point to the menu and wait to see what you have ordered. You cant go wrong. Masterchef quality food full or taste and tang. I am really hooked on Teriyaki flavours. Just dont forget to take your wallet. My carer is calling me. Oh God. I must be due for a fulsome reward. This has got to be money well spent!!!

“Great valur for lunch”

We found this restaurant on tripadvisor and decided to give it a try for lunch. The result was superb. They offered two different deals for lunch which I think is very worthwile, the Casual ($20) and Deluxe Lunch Set ($28).
I chose the casual one with an option to choose one meal from the many tapas menu (I chose crispy skin salmon) with rice and all the normal bento box get, ie salad, agadeshi tofu. On top of that, you get an appetiser and mango cake for dessert. Yes, all of them for $20. What a deal.
Thank you Tatsumi for the great service too.

“A Japanese Gem”

My partner and I love this restaurant. The food is super fresh and imaginative. The little starters are a great treat and we always look forward to them. Other dishes are beautiful and we have never been disappointed. Perhaps management could consider installing a water filter since the water tastes very chlorinated.

I discovered Tatsumi when a friend of mine took me to dinner there one night last year. I would have never discovered the place myself as the entrance is very easily missed. Ever since then I have been impressed and have taken many of my friends back there. Tatsumi is not your average Japanese restaurant and it is where I've had the best dining experiences in Auckland.
Tatsumi's food is a fusion of French and Japanese flavours and their degustation menu is the best choice for you to experience this. We went as a group of 8 to celebrate a birthday during Tatsumi's 2nd year anniversary celebration where the more people dining in your group the cheaper your meal, this came to $60 per person for a 9 course degustation menu. My favourite dish of the night was the Crayfish Chawan-Mushi - this silky and soft steamed egg is the best that I have had so far. This is followed closely by their black sesame creme brulee with green tea shortbread. The dessert which came out for the birthday boy was a nice touch that completed the excellent meal. Tatsumi is truly a special place in Newmarket and I will return for many more dinners to come.
